The use of primates in research always presents an ethical dilemma. If the cost : benefit balance justifies the work being done, it is imperative that the husbandry and management of the animals maximises their welfare. Good quality, easily accessible training materials are a vital component in training staff to carry out this good husbandry. It is intended that this DVD (12 min full running time) will be available for use in training programmes within institutes, and also in public education, to illustrate the contemporary use of primates in research. The turnover of personnel working with research animals tends to be quite high, particularly in academia, as new students are recruited and there is a constant need for training. This learning resource will act as a foundation to promote a better understanding of primate welfare.
The DVD is available in PAL or NTSC format.
