Mike has been in the department since 1990, first as a long-term Post-doc (18 years), then as a Lecturer. He has worked extensively in mountain belts all over the World, but predominantly in Oman and along the Himalaya, Karakoram and Tibet, but also notably in Burma (Myanmar), SE Asia, the Aegean-Cyclades Islands, NW Scotland and Cornwall. He has supervised over 20 DPhil students and numerous 4th year Masters student projects in Oxford. The day’s conference will be followed by a drinks reception in the department RCR, and a dinner in Worcester College. COMET/GEM Seismic Hazard Workshop and Open Quake TrainingDescriptionWe are hosting a seismic hazard and OpenQuake workshop as part of a NERC funded collaborative project between COMET (The Centre for the Observation and Modelling of Earthquakes, Volcanoes and Tectonics) and GEM (The Global Earthquake Model). The workshop aim is to help participants identify how their work is or can be used in PSHA/seismic hazard, and how their contributions will affect the hazard outputs. We hope participants will leave with a practical understanding of the oft-written sentence “this research will help improve seismic hazard…”.
