OU Cave Club trips

Trips in Trinity Term provide great opportunities for new and experienced members alike to do some interesting caving, often in slightly smaller groups that in the other terms.  Our trip plans include Mendip, Wales, the Forest of Deans and Yorkshire.

If for safety and logistic reasons we are unable to accommodate anyone on a trip, we'll let them know in advance, and prioritise them for a place on a trip later in the term.

OUCC trip - TT25 3rd Week - Otter Hole - Forest of Dean

Description

The second trip of Trinity Term will take place from 16th-18th May.

The Forest of Dean is a conveniently close area for a trip - and Otter Hole is a remarkable cave, not least because the entrance features a tidal sump, which deals the entrance half the time. The formations are impressive, and generally well-preserved.

For this trip we will camp at Beeches Farm campsite and we will be visiting Otter Hole (places definitely linited for this trip) and some other interesting local caves in the area.

This weekend trip will be on Friday 9th - Sunday 11th May 2025, staying at Bullpot Farm, which is at a perfect location- within walking distance of many popular caves. Yorkshire is an area that offers some remarkable caves - many of them are deep and require some training/experience in SRT techniques. For this trip, we will be going for more challenging caves, so it is recommended to have joined at least one caving trip and to join at least one SRT training session before coming on this trip.

Description

This weekend trip will be on Friday 30th May - Sunday 1st June 2025, staying at the SWCC hut, which is very close to Ogof Ffynnon Ddu, the deepest cave in the UK and offers a range of trips suitable for all. Various through trips are also possible for experienced cavers between top, bottom, and Cwm Dwr. In addition, we can potentially have trips to the Great Oxbows Series or the Northern Light, which we rarely attempted before.
There are plenty of options in OFD, and caves in the are too.

This weekend trip will be on Friday 20th June to Sunday 22nd June 2025, staying at the Wessex Cave Club hut.

This is a trip to a popular caving area, and will feature visits to a number of favourite caves, including Swildon's Hole (for the TT trip, we can attempt longer and more challenging routes, like those after Swildon’s Sump 1) and Eastwater Cavern. The Wessex hut has an SRT tower, suitable for SRT traiing and practice.
