EventsThe Selfish Gene at 50: An Evening with Richard DawkinsDescriptionThe Department of Biology is delighted to present a special evening marking the 50th anniversary of The Selfish Gene, Richard Dawkins' landmark book that became one of the most influential works of popular science ever published. Taking place in Oxford's new Life and Mind Building, this celebratory event will bring together leading figures in evolutionary biology to reflect on the book's origins, impact and enduring legacy. Fifty years after its publication, The Selfish Gene continues to shape scientific thinking and inspire debate across biology and beyond. The evening will begin with a lecture by Alan Grafen FRS, Professor of Theoretical Biology. This will be followed by an on-stage interview with Richard Dawkins, conducted by Professor Marian Dawkins, exploring the ideas behind The Selfish Gene and its influence over the past five decades. The audience will then have the opportunity to put their own questions to Richard Dawkins during a live Q&A session. Following the formal programme, guests are invited to continue the conversation over drinks at a reception in the Life and Mind Building.
