OxCIN MRI Graduate Programme 2026/27

This is strongly encouraged for all new students working on neuroimaging in the OxCIN Centre. 

Places are limited and assigned according to need.  A small number of external places are available to registrants from other institutions. If external places are fully booked, you may add your name and contact information to the waitlist under the Book Course option. You will be notified if additional places become available.

The upcoming course will be run in 'hybrid mode’ (online and in person). In person attendance of students and staff based in Oxford will be strongly encouraged.

Course Description

Advances in neuroimaging require a truly inter-disciplinary environment and this is a central premise at OxCIN. We consider it crucial for researchers to obtain a broad understanding of all aspects of neuroimaging: from physics to analysis to neuroscience. Our Graduate Programme plays a key role in providing researchers with this breadth of skills. 

The MRI Graduate Programme is an internal course available to students/postdocs/staff in Oxford and a limited number of external registrants. It combines lectures with computer-based practicals, tutorials and demonstrations on the scanners. The core components are MR Physics and MRI Analysis, with additional material on mathematics, neuroscience, and computer skills.

The course does not lead to, or count towards, any official qualification from the University of Oxford.

The course is primarily aimed at first-year PhD students, but is also useful for anyone new to neuroimaging, at any level. The programme is suitable for students from a wide variety of backgrounds such as psychology, physiology, medicine, engineering, physics or mathematics. The course comprises of three main components:

• Introductory Course (Michaelmas term, 1st week - mornings + one optional afternoon)

• Core Courses (Michaelmas and Hilary terms)

• Additional Modules (Michaelmas and Hilary terms - Thursdays 10.00-12.00, Trinity term - pre-recorded material)

The core course is designed to give first-year PhD students, or anyone new to the field of MRI, a comprehensive introduction to the methods involved. Further education is provided through the additional modules and we recommend that attendees select an appropriate subset of modules, as suits their needs.

Computing Requirements: Please ensure that you have an external hard drive or sufficient space on your computer to store imaging data for analysis. We recommend having at least 128 GB of additional storage available.
