Course Description

Gain practical experience of different qualitative interviewing skills and techniques on our one-day online course. Our tutors are experienced and approachable experts who will support you as you develop and practise new skills.

Our course is aimed at health professionals, researchers, academics and postgraduate students who have little or no experience of qualitative interviewing.  Everyone is welcome, regardless of research background. Our previous courses have attracted researchers from a wide range of disciplines including health professionals, social scientists and educators.

COURSE DELIVERY 

Please note that some of the teaching sessions for this online course will involve you participating in live, interactive Zoom sessions, which will fall between the hours of 09:00 and 17:00 UK time. We are very happy to welcome bookings wherever you are internationally, but please make sure that you are able to attend video calls between these hours. 

Content

The course will include:

  • Expert-led online lectures and video content, focusing on practical and theoretical elements of qualitative research interviews
  • Online practical group sessions offering delegates the opportunity to produce an interview schedule (topic guide), and to develop and practise different qualitative interviewing skills.
  • Feedback sessions to help improve interviewing techniques
  • Discussion of sampling approaches

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course participants will:

  • Have an understanding of the main features of qualitative interviewing
  • Be familiar with the key skills of interviewing, including body language/tone of voice, asking open questions, probing and active listening
  • Have gained practical experience of designing an interview schedule (topic guide)
  • Have developed qualitative interviewing skills using different techniques
