Optional excursion to Winchester and Chawton (HPS)

This excursion is only available for those enrolled on the Oxford University History, Politics and Society Summer School, 5-25 July 2026, Exeter College, Oxford.

 

Detailed Description

The first stop will be the historic city of Winchester, where students might like to visit Winchester Cathedral, the City Museum, the remains of Wolvesey Castle (Old Bishop's Palace); follow a self-guided walk or trail; browse Winchester's street market, as well its independent shops and artisan retailers. The excursion will also include a visit to Chawton, a nearby village which is famous as the literary home of Jane Austen and rich in Austen-related sites. Please note that the price of £30 is for the coach only: any other costs (admission fees, food and drink, etc) are the student’s responsibility.
