What is the value of Quality of Life? Cost, Care, Choices

Description

Friday 27 March, 6-9pm

Jesus College, Cheng Yu Tung Building, Turn St, Oxford OX1 3DW

> CONTENT: Potentially distressing content includes medical environments, discussion of mortality, progressive impairment, social care and cuts to care, sexual content and suicide.

Healthcare systems worldwide face difficult ethical decisions under financial constraints. How are these decisions made, and should personal narratives influence them?

This project combines ‘Quality of Life is Not a Measurable Outcome’ by Jamie Hale with live audience polling to explore the tension between personal and impersonal perspectives, and how individual stories shape reflection and discussion.

After surviving critical illness and rebuilding their life, Jamie is now faced with the loss of the care package that keeps them alive and independent. Fusing poetry, monologue, film, and theatre in spoken English and British Sign Language, ‘Quality of Life is Not a Measurable Outcome’ is a multi-media play exploring what it means to live in the world as a profoundly disabled person.
